Wheelchair use skills (1) - drive wheelchair

The service personnel need to ensure that the wheelchair user can drive the wheelchair and understand the precautions of the wheelchair on different roads to better play the role of the wheelchair, to make the user more independent and reduce the burden on the nursing staff.

(1) Driving a wheelchair
When driving a wheelchair on a flat surface, try to maintain a neutral sitting position, hold the hand ring with both hands, and push forward as you go straight ahead. To save effort, you can advance from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock in the hand ring.
(2) Conversion direction
In the wheelchair and at rest, the direction can be changed by controlling the hand loop. If one side is used to fix one side wheel and the other hand pushes the opposite side wheel, the fixed wheel can be used as a shaft to turn the wheelchair; the opposite hand pushes the hand ring (one side of the hand ring pushes forward and the other side backwards) ), the wheelchair can be rotated. For example, turning to the left side, placing the left hand behind the hand wheel, the left arm is externally rotated, the weight is transmitted to the inside of the left wheel, and the left wheel is rotated backward with the left hand, while the right hand turns the right wheel to the front in the normal posture.
(3) Up and down ramp
When going uphill, the trunk leans forward and the center of gravity moves forward to prevent the wheelchair from turning backwards. When going downhill, the trunk leans back and the center of gravity moves backwards, so that the hand ring slides slowly in the hand, if necessary, gently rubbing the hand ring to increase friction. Slow downhill speed.
(4) Crossing obstacles
When the lower curb or the small ditch passes over, make the wheelchair back to the curb or small ditch, and close the rear wheel to the obstacle. The body leans forward as far as possible, slowly backwards backwards, and turns the big wheel and the caster through the obstacle.
When you are on the curb, you can lift the front casters and balance with the big wheel (the front wheel technology), drive the wheelchair forward, let the casters cross the obstacles and then put down the casters. The body leans forward and pushes the wheelchair to make the big wheels overcome the obstacles. When the front wheel technology is practiced, someone must stand behind and protect. The specific practice steps are:
1 Tilting the front wheel: Push the wheelchair back until the hands are at 10 o'clock, then push forward quickly to use the inertia to tilt the front casters.
2 Maintain the balance of the big wheel: After lifting the front wheel, turn the rear wheel to find the balance point in a small range and balance with the big wheel.
3 Travel after balance: After balancing, you can drive forward, turn, and so on. After learning the front wheel technology, the user can lift the front wheel over the curb, the raised floor, and the like.
Tips: The front wheel is difficult to operate and dangerous. It requires high balance and physical quality for wheelchair users. Pay attention to safety when using the wheelchair and take protective measures.
